Tax, crochet and mindfulness

Both Chris and I are registered as Micro entrepreneurs. This means that we are effectively self employed and have to do regular tax returns. There is a choice to do this monthly or quarterly. I took the decision to do this monthly given that we then pay the tax each month therefore there is less likelihood of spending it accidentally. A return must be completed even if there was no income in the tax period.

Yesterday was the end of the month. I don’t normally leave it until the last minute however I had it in my head that the end of January wasn’t until the middle of this week. You may remember that earlier in the month we had a range of updates done to the laptops. On the one hand that was great on the other, finding the codes that allow me to access a range of things can become quite a challenge.

As I was trying to get the system to work I knew that I was starting to feel stressed. Normally I can complete a return in less than 30 minutes and often the two in that time. One of them took over two hours. Even as I was doing it, I started to focus on my breathing. This started to help.

Once I had finished, I immediately picked up the crochet bag I am working on. The response was almost instant. I could feel myself starting to feel better. I would have liked to be able to report that I have finished it but unfortunately I haven’t. However I am making progress and hope to have it finished later in the week.

Until tomorrow…
