Catching up and taking stock

I ran out of yarn at the weekend for my current large project, so whilst I am waiting for the new yarn to arrive I thought that I would do a couple of small projects. At the moment I am saying that I will not do anymore large projects before Christmas. However I often say things like that so watch this space.

Whilst waiting for the new yarn I thought I’d complete a couple of small projects. I had bought two balls of yarn last week to create an afghan. If you look at crochet patterns for what you might call a blanket, they are usually called an afghan. Apparently the term originally came from the colourful oriental fabrics that were brought back from Afghanistan, the term was thought to have been adopted into the English language prior to 1831. The term persists and refers to the crochet blankets of various sizes that are often brightly coloured and may or may not have a variety of textures. Mine is an afghan or a rectangular granny blanket depending on your choice of terms.

I am currently making a pair of finger-less gloves. I have booked tables at a number of Christmas fairs and am hoping that I will be able to sell some of the smaller items as Christmas presents. So I plan to make some more over the next couple of weeks.

Several weeks ago I bought some unopened crochet magazines in a second hand shop. Today I finally got round to opening them and putting them into a folder so that I can go through them. There was quite a stash of yarn to be had with them which is also really good. This evening I may be sitting down with the folder to see what’s there.

However first I will be going to a meeting about the Christmas tree. I haven’t done any more squares. However I discovered a number of squares that I made for a project but didn’t end up using, so I shall take them with me and see whether they want them.

Until tomorrow…

  1. Looks amazing! Love the colours

Strange isn’t it how language makes a difference! Afghan sounds like something for all ages and contours up images of yerts, hippies etc. Granny blanket a very different image!

I’ve developed my cooking skills, gardening skills and even done a little sewing BUT I would love to be able to crochet – looks amazing!

  2. You have been so productive. The fingerless gloves look beautiful and fine.
I hope you have a good meeting tonight about the Christmas tree. I’mm sure that they will want all the squares.
It seemed to never quite get light today and darkness came really fast. Prompting me to be more productive in the daylight hours myself.
    Have a lovely evening. Xx
