Last night’s squid went really well. We had it with a green salad and some bread. It was lovely. Chris said he wanted to have it again, so it can’t have been too bad! Given I think it’s quite easy to make it rubbery I was quite pleased.
This morning it was five breakfasts in the gîte. I know five isn’t many however I have to make them here and then transport them, so it becomes quite complicated. I spend my time counting pieces of fruit and butter pats as well as trying not to burn bake-off breads. There appears to be an exceptionally fine line between under done and burnt to a cinder, so I spend a lot of time checking the contents of the oven. Everyone seemed happy including Toby the dog. I asked and he was allowed some bread, just a small amount.
We needed to go to Morlaix today. I realized that I need more towels. I’m not quite sure why but we do. I currently have three different colours, not great I know but it’s how it is. I won’t put mixed colours in a room, so we have to have several spares. I have managed to get more in one of my current colourways, so that was good.
We took the dogs with us because we thought we could walk them on the way. We stopped and found a path and thought we’d follow it. It led onto open moorland, then it became another path. After some time it turned in a direction that we didn’t want to go. We decided to try to find a way back that didn’t simply mean turning around and going back the way we’d been. To begin with it went well. After a while I was up to my knees in wet grass and soggy ground. Neither of us was dressed for such a walk. Chris was wearing trainers and I was wearing a pair of suede ankle boots. It took about an hour to complete our walk and as I walked back to the car on a firmer path, I could hear the water squelching in my boots as I took each step. I’d love to say that we did this on the way home, but no we were on our way to Morlaix at the time. So we had to remain very soggy whilst we were there.

I know it’s possible to get very good value lunches in France and I thought why not. It’s Friday, we’re working quite hard and we need some luxuries. The first place we tried was not doing lunch because it’s a bank holiday weekend, hard to explain but entirely normal here. The second place was doing two courses for €12:80. We found it at about 10 to midday. I suggested that we waited outside for opening. It was a good thing that we did by about 12:15 he had hung his full sign outside. It was incredible how many people walked past the sign and tried to persuade him to find them a table. Just bizzare. We both had plat du jour, gammon steak with a wine sauce, fried new potatoes and salad. I had a type of panna cotta with strawberries and Chris had strawberry melba for dessert. It was all delicious. It also means no cooking this evening.
It’s been nice not to have to rush this afternoon. I have managed a bit of crochet and I’m off to Pilates in a minute. I have more guests in the gîte this evening, breakfasts both days and a Vide grenier on Sunday, so it’ll be a busy weekend. If you are anywhere near La Feuillée this Sunday do stop by. Fromthesheshed will be at the vide grenier. It’s usually a really good day.
I hope you have a great weekend. Until Monday…
Enjoy your weekend – keep dry 😂
Love the photo – your wet feet were worth it for that alone!
Lunch sounds amazing – mine was a sandwich!
