Oops, it’s more than I thought!

I had decided that I would make some quiche today. And as I always say, why make one when you can make two, or three or four? More of that later.

I had been waiting for a postcard from Google in order that I could verify my business on Google maps. The postcard arrived yesterday. I duly typed in the web address, added my code and I appeared to have been verified. What does this mean? Well now if someone is looking for a gîte d’étape in Finistère. I should come up as part of the list. I’m a long way down the list, but nevertheless I am there. Please do have a look and see whether you can find me. Don’t use the name of the gîte, I know it comes up that way. Can you find me by just googling the type of business?

I know lots of people on the crochet sites I follow talk about too many patterns and not enough time. This morning I received an email from a company offering free patterns. I wasted a good half an hour looking through the patterns and saving a number of them into a folder. Some of them are just wonderful. If only I had more time!

So back to the cooking. I had bought a block of margarine for making pastry. And in my infinite wisdom I decided that I might as well use all of it. So given it was 500g I had to add a kilo of flour. I had thought that I might freeze half of the pastry and use it later. However, it is gluten free and things, such as pastry, don’t always work as well after freezing. So I realized that I needed to use all of it today. I knew what I putting in the quiche, leek and courgette with blue cheese. What was I going to make with the rest? Suddenly I remembered that I used to make Homity pie really regularly and I haven’t made it in years. Thankfully I had the ingredients, well almost, no cheddar but a suitable alternative. Having bought individual dishes a while ago I decided to make four in there and a big one to go in the freezer. At the end there was a little piece of pastry left, so I put some camembert and sun-dried tomatoes in it and cooked it for my lunch. It was delicious.

We are off to the cinema this evening. We’ve probably only been twice in the last twenty years and now it’s twice in a fortnight! The new Kenneth Brannagh film Belfast is on. I think it won an Oscar last week, so hopefully it will be good.

Until tomorrow…

  1. Everything looks wonderful. The little bit of pastry that you had left and turned into your lunch looked delicious. Batch baking is my normal and I find it very satisfying to know that meals are planned. I have a months menus on the fridge door and find it really helps with time and shopping to not have to think what to prepare. It’s very good for the budget too !
You’ve had an extremely productive day. Xx

    1. Yes I was pleased. With the boys coming I’d like some meals in the freezer so that I don’t have to take time out of my day when they’re here! And I can thoroughly recommend camembert and sun-dried tomato turnover!

  2. Great batch cooking, Zenna! I do that when I light the Rayburn as it takes so long to heat up the oven, and then stays hot for hours.
I hate waste! So there will be a pot au feu on the stove, and a pizza, flan or bake (or cake) in the oven. One out, one in, they keep on going until the heat and mix have all dissipated .
Bon appetit! Fill your freezer! ☺️🙏🙌🤔☺️🌟🤗🙌🙏💝💖💞
