National crochet month, Crafternoons and a quilt.

Before going to the UK, Friday afternoons were Crafternoons. Unfortunately the person who started them was unable to keep them going. However someone who was attending was able to offer her dining room. Thus Crafternoons continue. There were four of us today all engaged in different crafts.

We enjoyed our time but it was impossible for our conversation not to turn to the war in Ukraine. I don’t think there is a simple response to what is happening. We are all concerned about what might happen next. It is really quite overwhelming, threats of nuclear weapons is just so frightening. We did though focus on our crafting given that we are not able to make changes to what is happening elsewhere in the world.

I feel as though I am knitting like a demon. I enjoy all the crafts that I engage with, but I find knitting the slowest. I am working away on the sleeves for the jumper order. They are growing but it feels as though they are going slowly whilst I’m trying to go as fast as possible! I would have liked to have finished it this weekend but that isn’t looking too likely at the moment.

I noticed online that in the US March is crochet month. Strangely the site talked about crochet as a form of knitting. I think that there are a lot of purists out there who wouldn’t be happy about that. I tend to agree though that the two activities are likely to have come from the same route. The site also stated that it didn’t matter which you undertook because both are good for your stress levels and sense of well-being. I continue to be convinced about the way in which they can support these and I will continue to consider how I can share these ideas.

The person whose house we were at today is a friend. We met when she was training to teach and I was returning from maternity leave, so over twenty years now! Her main craft is quilting. She had said a while back that she was going to do a quilt for me. I was absolutely to delighted to be given it today. I have put it over my armchair in front of the fire. I shall be sitting in it knitting this evening.

Just before dinner we took the dogs for a walk. It was incredible to see how blue the sky was, the temperature has dropped now. It would seem the sky is clearing for the weekend. Hopefully that will mean sunshine during the day, though I’m sure it will be colder nights again.

Thank you for continuing to read and respond to my blog. I hope you have a great weekend and you and your families are safe. Until Monday…

  1. The quilt is beautiful and I enjoyed our crafternoon. As well as the discussion about what is going on in the Ukraine we did also manage to have a good laugh about things closer to home.

  2. It sounds like a lovely afternoon and very productive too. Your jumper is certainly coming along and the patchwork throw is really lovely and so colourful. I have a vintage American one given to us as a wedding present which is still on the foot of our bed. It is really vintage now and probably 80 plus years old. They become family heirlooms.
It looked lovely at the lake and I bet the dogs enjoyed it too. Lovely to get out and in the sunlight. I hope it is a nice weekend as I’ve left the washing out overnight on the line ! Fingers crossed.
Have a lovely weekend doing things that make you happy. Xxx

    1. Thank you. I had to read that twice because you certainly haven’t been married 80 years 🤣🤣. Quilts are really lovely and of course they are a brilliant way of re-cycling that lasts a significant period of time. Good luck with the washing!
