Mindfulness and mindlessness

There is a huge difference between the two and whilst I might be attempting to focus on the former there are times when the latter creeps in. Today was one such day. However the latter was relatively easily resolved.

Today has been exceptionally cold but dry and crisp. So a really beautiful winter’s day. This morning my car was registering-5. I’m glad to report that it improved as the day went on. It did though provide some opportunities for photos that reflect the weather and the scene.

This morning was mindfulness which as always was wonderful. I am beginning to realise that you can’t know whether it’s working to begin with. It is a slow process, a journey, but sometimes you are able to look back and know that you have travelled a distance. You may not necessarily have gone where you expected to but as you become more mindful you are able to decide the direction of your journey. I cannot begin to say what a difference it has made to me and how it helps in my interactions with others.

Knitting and crochet are part of the process. . Both knitting and crochet allow me to clear my mind and to focus on the here and now. Whilst I might have a pile of patterns for the future I can only work on what is in front of me and if I don’t work on a project it isn’t going to make progress. And yes that can be a metaphor for life.

This afternoon was Knit and Natter which is also always good. The activity is mindful and it is also an opportunity for people to meet and to engage in much needed social interaction. I wish we could persuade some more French people to join however we are a great small group. I was driving home this evening from the group when my phone rang. I recognized the number as the café owner’s. I was a little confused. He had very kindly rung me to let me know that I had left my bank card behind. So whilst much of my day was mindful, there was an element of mindlessness in leaving my things lying around. Thankfully I did it in the right place! Said card is safely back in my possession!

Until tomorrow…
