Go fund Archie!

Apologies for the late blog post. Over the last week I haven’t been sleeping very well. I didn’t know why. We saw Archie this afternoon and I came home and went to sleep! So I think I have my answer.

The vet can only be described as a miracle worker. Archie is walking really well. Clearly he is limping but he is up on all four legs and not falling about. He appears to have regained control of both his bladder and bowels. The control is not completely there, but the difference since we saw him at the weekend feels absolutely incredible. He is not allowed to walk on the tiled surface of the surgery floor because that could make him slip or slide. Apparently that could lead to him injuring himself again.

He was pleased to see us and seemed to know who we are. When we went at the weekend he hadn’t got a clue. He became tired very quickly though and was more than happy to go with the vet back to his kennel after he had seen us. Funnily enough the vet talks to him in French and he appears to respond! The plan is for him to come home next Monday. There will be medication and further visits to the vet but he will be back with us.

Archie isn’t insured,he became uninsurable whilst we were still living in the UK and given that vets are usually quite inexpensive here we weren’t worried. However this bill as I’m sure you can imagine is four figures. Someone suggested that I set up a Go fund me page to help. Neither Chris or I are keen on that. However as you may all know I have a stock of items that I have created, knitting, crochet and up-cycled items. I will set up a separate page with a number of items that are available. I am going to the UK in February if anyone is there and wants any items.

Thank you all for your support through this. We are really looking forward to having him home. However our understanding is that there remains a long road to recovery.

Until tomorrow…

  1. So glad Archie is on the mend! You must both be so relieved. I understand why you two grafters would be reluctant to set up a Go Fund Me BUT I would ask you to reconsider.
We all need a little help from our friends and family from time to time. Those unexpected life events which pop up and punch us in the guts vary from the emotional to the financial and at times like these I think the following is worth considering ….
‘Tzedakah is the Hebrew word for philanthropy It is a form of social justice in which donors benefit from giving as much or more than the recipients’
Anyone who has the privilege of a beloved animal living with them will think of Archie and your situation and just be grateful that their beloved pet is not going through trauma. I for one would willingly make a small donation and feel happy that I was able to contribute to his recovery and to honour our friendship (without strings and without judgements)
Of course this doesn’t prevent you from raising funds by selling your creations but maybe both are needed to overcome this particular hurdle in life’s obstacle course?
You must of course do what you think is the right thing but please know that there is nothing wrong in accepting the practical benefits of friendship 🤗

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words. We both feel uncomfortable about asking for help. But given that you know me, this probably won’t surprise you! We will certainly have a think about this. Again thank you for your support.
