The start of something new

Welcome back and I really hope that you have had an opportunity to have some fun and relaxation with your family and friends. I must say thank goodness for facetime. Without it I would have found this Christmas extremely difficult, particularly as it was, it was the second in which all plans were interrupted due to Covid. I really hope that once we pass the peak of the wave of omicron, that we will begin to see a real difference. All of our family have had all three vaccinations so having to accept the restrictions on our lives has seemed really quite difficult.

Father Christmas was seen in Huelgoat on the 23rd December, pulled by a Breton horse. It was a lovely sight. What’s interesting is that here Pere Noel brings sweets for the children but not presents as he does in the UK and other countries. It was rather useful when my husband was Pere Noel before Christmas, he didn’t need to know the names of toys in French!

Before Christmas I began a sweater dress for myself that I wanted to wear on Christmas day. In the lead up to Christmas I thought I wasn’t going to complete it in time but I am delighted to report that it was finished and I was able to wear it. Some friends very kindly invited us over on Christmas day so we weren’t alone. We thoroughly appreciated it and had an enjoyable day.  I was also able to show off the dress. I completely forgot to ask anyone to take a photo of me in it. So you will have to make do with an image of the dress on a hangar!

We had a booking of 15 in the gite for New Year. They were there for 3 nights. I had expected to go in to chaos afterwards but actually they left it beautifully tidy. I knew that they were young people when I accepted their booking, so I was a little nervous. They were a group of veterinary students. There was evidence of drinking but far more of eating. On New Year’s eve I would have liked to have stayed for dinner. There were hors d’oeuvres followed by oysters and a main course of duck breast. I can assure you that I never ate like that when I was a student! In fact I don’t really eat like it now.

On New Year’s day we, Chris and I, took up the challenge and swam in Lac du Drennec with some other people. It was cold however we did it. We are considering making it an annual event. I cannot put the video here but I will put it on the Facebook page.

This has started to bring you up to date with what has been happening. So until tomorrow…

  1. Despite all the restrictions and change of plans it looked like a busy Christmas and certainly busier than ours which is always very quiet.
Papa Noel was spectacular and I’m sure the bonbons were popular !
For us it is Dylan’s Birthday today and being on the 3 rd it naturally brings in the end of the festivities at this time of year. Have a wonderfully restful evening. Xx
