Gite, gilet and guided walks

Today has been busy without being pressurised. Progress has been made on many fronts. I have also made a casserole in my new machine.

As some of you will remember there was a sad moment with my slow cooker the other week. I use mine throughout the year so it had to be replaced. A friend mentioned something called an Instapot. I took a look but they were very expensive. I however found something that does the same thing at a much lower price. These items not only slow cook but also sauté, pressure cook, roast and have a number of other functions. I knew I wanted to do a casserole today, so it was my first opportunity to test it out. I used the sauté function to fry the meat, onions and mushrooms before I added the root vegetables and the stock. I then put it on to slow cook. The result was very clean plates, so I think it was successful.

I have new gite guests in tonight, so there was cleaning and bed changing this morning. I also managed to tidy my cupboard with a little assistance from my sister-in-law. The guests are the first couple to arrive via a tandem!

After gite cleaning we took my mother-in-law and sister-in-law for a walk in Huelgoat woods. The woods are lovely at all different times of the year. What is also good is that there are different paths that allow for different abilities.

Later this afternoon I also had time to work on the the gilet. I am now working on the hood. I am hoping to get it finished fairly soon.

I have breakfasts to do in the morning. So until tomorrow…

  1. Interesting crockpot! I LOVE my slow cookers. I have a smallish one and a bigger one that I can do a large chicken whole with all the veg round it. It also has a sous vide facility which I’ve only ever used to cook chicken in marinade.
Got me thinking: my gran used to cook most things on an open fire, while the living room was heated as well. Everything slow cooked, including the lovely old boiling chickens which tasted superb – I wonder if we have actually made progress with all our lovely shiny gadgets? I’ve even got a bread maker to do all the kneading and rising for me (although I also handmake sourdough).
    Still I do like gadgets!

  2. Glad things are going well. Our 2 homes in Herefordshire were close to woods and orchards so I appreciate your comments on the changing tree-scape.
