As you may or may not be aware my mother spent a week in hospital at the beginning of August after an un-diagnosed issue. I went over to the UK whilst she was in hospital and brought her back here two weeks after she was discharged. She is now much stronger and has decided to return home. The hospital will be running further tests and trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
In the meantime she decided that given she is leaving on Sunday, she would like a day out. So we headed to Quimper. I always think that it is a beautiful city and there is plenty to see whilst having a gentle stroll. The architecture generally is stunning and the cathedral is very impressive. The floral displays are also good and there were plenty to see even nearing the end of September. We had lunch overlooking the cathedral. My mother particularly wanted to have coffee and a cake in a patisserie. We were not in time in the morning so we decided that we would not have desert, we would take a stroll and have coffee and cake a little later. Unfortunately on this occassion I completely forgot to take any photos! What I can say is that I had a macaroon and she had a rum-baba and they were excellent.
When one of my children was very young I made a lot of chutney, I was known as the Chutney Queen and very nearly started a blog under that name. However that is another story! He however could not say chutney and appeared to add an additional e. Yesterday I intended to make some chutney but ran out of both time and energy. So now my Gluttony Chutney is on the stove. It is gluttony not because I am being greedy but because of the glut of courgettes that I had. I then went around the kitchen and gathered up additional fruit and vegetables that were really getting near their end of life and it all went it. I shall be jarring up later. I’ll let you know how it goes.

On a positive note, being mindful I recognised that I was tired yesterday and that making chutney would have been a step too far. Instead I organised to chop the vegetables and fruit this morning, to steep them in vinegar whilst I was out today and to cook them this evening. Last night I was able to observe the moon, taking a quiet moment to do so. All part of my mindful journey.

Until tomorrow…

What a lovely day together. Quimper is lovely and the sunny warm weather definitely helps make for an enjoyable day there. The moon last night was spectacular and I too spent some time outside gazing at it.
Your chutney looks set to be fantastic. I was first part of the family table chutney production line when I was about three. I have such lovely memories of three generations all sat around with chopping boards and the big pot in the middle. It was almost always marrow chutney and it lasted all through the winter for Saturday launches with Howells sausage.
You brought back that memory , thank you. Xxx
I made a pot of spiced plum jam today for Christmas. It was really using up leftovers that were destined for the bin and I couldn’t allow that.
Have a lovely evening. Xxx

I’m glad to hear it brought back good memories. At the moment it is still a little runny. I’m hoping a long simmer should sort it out. I normally weigh and measure. Today I just threw it all in! I may have over done the vinegar and I’m out of sugar! I’ll let you know how it turns out.
