Friday night already!

So yet another week has flown past and the weekend starts here! I have various odds and ends that I intended to include in various posts this week, so I think I might just include them here.

Yesterday I meant to talk about King Arthur. Strangely we had watched a documentary recently in which they discussed the fact that the Arthurian legend is not only big in the UK but in other countries too, particularly France. I have spent a lot of time in Heulgoat forest but never really noticed that there are references to him there as evidenced by the sign below! I find it fascinating that different countries appropriate the same legend in a similar way. It must say something about the nature of us as humans and the things that make us feel better.

I started to mention last night that I wanted to discuss knitting and crochet patterns. This might sound bizarre, I hope not. I have knitted since I was very young and have read knitting patterns since I was a teenager. I have come to crochet much later in life. What I have found is that the quality of knitting patterns appears to be better than the quality of crochet patterns. It seems that the language of the patterns in crochet is not standardised and I find so many patterns with addenda demonstrating that there was an error but that it has now been corrected. Drawn crochet charts are almost unfathomable! So those of you who do either of these crafts, I’d be interested in your views on this. I’d also like to know whether you have an opinion as to why it seems that knitting patterns tend to be of better quality. Having said that I am really enjoying creating things in crochet and will certainly continue to do so.

This weekend is going to be about crochet! I hope you all have a good weekend and I will speak to you next week.

  1. I don’t knit nor crochet but would love to and keep promising myself that I will one day. After thinking about your observation and the disparity in the standard of the patterns, I wonder if it is because knitting has been a living for many people over centuries, such as fisherman jumpers etc. Turning wool into garments for wearing and utilitarian clothing ? I wonder if that is the reason in the difference in quality of patterns. Also, crochet has to my knowledge been considered a craft and pastime rather than a way of making a living in the past ? Just random thoughts. Xx

The weekend ! Have a wonderful one and take care, rest much and fill your time with your passions. Xxx
