Bees, business and bother!

I like a little alliteration so I thought I’d use this as today’s title. However I am stretching it on two fronts. It wasn’t really business and there was only one bee.

My husband is self-employed and this morning started with me writing two devis, a quote that is legally binding and must be written in French. The first was relatively straightforward. The second one was for someone who doesn’t speak French so I had to send two copies one in French and one in English so that they could read it. The final activity, related to business, was to type up and send some advice. He was asked to provide a devis for some work but until other work has been completed it isn’t possible to provide an accurate devis.

After that it was off to the gite for a bit of cleaning and setting up. I have two rooms in this weekend. I had already done the beds, I just needed to clean a bathroom and the salon. So it was a fairly quick visit.

Next we had to go to collect some joists that were taken out of a job the other half did this week. His poor car and trailer, I’m not quite sure how they survive. Anyone want to buy a Dacia Logan? One careful owner from new!

After that it was time for some crochet. I have started something new which is for the holiday makers when they arrive. However here comes the bother. Almost all crochet patterns are written in American English in which the terminology for the stitches is different to that which is used in patterns written using English terminology. I have spent some time working and wondering why everything looked wrong. So now I know! The positives though are that I have listened to a cuckoo most of the time. And a bee landed on me and walked down my arm and onto my hand. I didn’t think I’d be able to take a photo but I managed it!

A bee on my hand

I hope you have a good weekend. I know I will be busy. I will be back on Monday.

  1. I can’t imagine having to produce that type of document in another language Zenna!
    It’s strange the US/UK differences:
    Size clothes
    Size shoes
    Crochet Patterns
I wonder what else divides us other than size and language!
I’ve now got zillions of bees after a few days sunshine + insects + flies + moths or butterflies (I can never tell the difference)
Anyway, my visitors have gone home so I’m off out into the garden to catch up with grass cutting, weeding etc – happy weekend 🤗

    1. All I can say is thank goodness for Deepl and other similar programmes. I tend to have a go myself and then check with one of those types of programme. Knowing the formal layout again can be found on line but it is really important.
