I might just go back to the UK for a quieter life! This week has become quite a run around. I started writing this whilst sitting in my car waiting for some clients to arrive. They arrived exactly as they had said that they would, so it worked well.
I got up at the same time this morning as yesterday but somehow I couldn’t really get going and seemed to find everything took longer than usual. So this meant that much of the day I have been running behind.
I took the dogs out for their walk. I went down to the stream and discovered that some of the irises have started to bloom. They look really lovely. This morning the Labradors appeared to be being particularly thick! They have a toy for retrieving. This morning the first throw took ages for them to find. Nancy went straight to it. And given that it was in the stream she got it out and put it on the side for them. Later I managed to throw it into the tree and that took some rescuing. It was time to go.
I had arranged to go to IKEA today. I was in need of three mattresses for the gite, mattress protectors and various other small items. When we arrived it was obvious that it was busy because the car park was quite full. However we were undeterred. To be fair the shop wasn’t too busy and they had the mattresses I wanted in stock. Unfortunately they were not in the self-serve area so you had to order them from a member of sales staff. At this stage all was still going well. When we got to the tills to pay the queues were pretty awful and they were so slow. We had been standing in the queue for some time, there were still at least 3 or 4 people in front of us, when a couple were ushered to the front of the queue. Apparently this was because one of them was disabled. There were some very disgruntled shoppers. We’d all been standing waiting for a long time. I think IKEA needs to consider a separate till, taking people past those who have been queuing for an age does not go down well. Eventually we were through and looking for the pick up point. Usually there is an electronic board that lets you know what is happening. That was not in action today. Instead you had to go outside and wait by a fire door. After 35 minutes of standing about I decided that action was needed. I went and asked the chap who was doling out the goods if he knew how long mine would be. He said no, he couldn’t possibly tell me. So I said an hour, two hours? To which I was told possibly with a shrug. I wasn’t happy and he was starting to be rude. I decided that I needed to something to start to resolve the situation. I asked to speak to a manager. One duly arrived and took my receipt. After a few minutes he returned and said that my products were on a pallet that was on its way down and should be there in 5 to 10 minutes. They did arrive in that time frame. I don’t know why they could not let people know what was happening. It was all very arbitrary in the way in which it was organised, or more to the point, not organised. By that stage I had well and truly had enough and couldn’t wait to leave. I was in need of coffee but that wasn’t to be either. My Burger King experience is for another day!
I finished crocheting the main body of the bag last night and sewing it up. I have yet to create a handle. When that’s created I will share it here.
I have yet to sit on a terrace and drink coffee, something that I have been promising myself given the lifting of certain restrictions. Maybe that will be one for tomorrow. Until then I hope you have a good evening.

Goodness, what a day ! On the bright side, you got what you wanted and got back home to your own retreat and your guests were on time and happy. That in itself is a good day when it comes to venturing inside IKEA. Haha
Those shrugs say a thousand words in my experience and I have become pretty good at standing in line, knowing nothing about what is going on but eventually getting my turn. I did the same as you in Super U some years ago and the manager told me that the staff were working well and that I must learn some patience. It was the beginning of realising that culture is definitely different between here and the UK. I often let people with a few items go in front of me when queuing and when I was pregnant I always went to the front of the queues as standing was difficult.
I can’t wait to see the bag when you’ve finished it, I am in awe of your self teaching with regards to crochet.
My family had 4 labs over their life and they are definitely excitable not wits sometimes but very gentle in my experience and that was great as a child. Are yours greedy ? All the ones I have known in my own family would steal anything they could get their hands on given the chance !
I hope you get to sit and watch life go by on a sunny terrace tomorrow and feel satisfied in your achievements this week. Have a lovely evening . Xxx

Thank you. If it was clear that people were being given their items in order, fine but that wasn’t what seemed to be happening. I shall work on the strap shortly! And I really do hope to have coffee somewhere tomorrow.

🙄same the world over. At least IKEA stuff is worth waiting for, the right price, and it’s a known quantity
I think I must be an aberration! I am just so patient and see every ‘wait’ as ‘time out’ of a hectic world.
I took Jessica to Primark for some girlie shopping time last week. The queue was literally right around the shop. She was shocked at how long the queue was (and bless her, she was worried that I might not be able to stand for so long – hip ops have failed and I can’t really walk/stand much anymore) I just held onto the counters/rails on the way round and enjoyed being with Jess 🤷🏽♀️ Wouldn’t choose to queue, but can’t be arsed getting mad 🤣🤣🤣.
I guess my motto would be just enjoy the time out and enjoy just being 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Thank you. I’m so sorry to hear that the hips haven’t worked. I knew I had to get back to the gite for clients arriving. I know I need to learn greater patience however it was chaotic. Glad you had a good time with Jess xx
