‘Things I learned this year’

I am opening today’s post with a song. I hope that you take the time to listen to it and enjoy the lyrics. I’m not saying that they are all relevant today but later you’ll get the gist. I also really like the song.

So we had guests last night who were lovely. They phoned to ask whether they could arrive early. My guess was that rain stopped play! It suited me so that was good. This morning they left early and followed the instructions on locking up and leaving the key. So that went well.

We went to market in Heulgoat. It was really quite busy. Today is Ascension which is a public holiday here. I think that was why it was so busy. I wasn’t keen but my husband said I couldn’t have it to myself! Afterwards we went to set up the gite for this evening’s guests.

The couple tonight will be going into our family room. Now before I explain what happened, I will say in my defence that we haven’t used the room that often and we don’t have a similar shower at home.

The cleaning was going well. I’d left the bed made yesterday. I’d changed the rug, vacuumed and cleaned the toilet. Only the shower and the sink to go. So I leaned into the shower grasped the hand held hose. It then all stared to go horribly wrong. Initially I didn’t seem to be able to get any water so I turned it up, nothing. I then tried to turn another dial to see if that made a difference. Seemingly nothing, then suddenly the body jets started pumping cold water at high speed at me. The water went over my glasses so I couldn’t see. I know I screamed. I had to go further in to turn it off. By this stage the water was all over the floor and I was soaked through to my underwear.

I am not sure that there’s a moral to the tale. However almost instantly the song started to play in my head. I think this year will be a learning curve. The first one is to learn how to operate our showers!

A very wet me!

So I have now sat at the gite for over 2 hours waiting for my guests. Thankfully I brought some crochet. I hope they arrive soon.

In the meantime I hope that today’s post has entertained you. Until tomorrow!

  1. Oh no Zenna !! You must have been absolutely soaked !! It’s a good job you had a tune come to mind straight away and could see a positive side to your experience. Music is like that, in the fact that a lyric can play over and over in your mind like a mantra. On the brighter side, I’m so pleased you have had a great experience with your guests though and that you are definitely going in the right direction. It’s a bit like hitting the floor running really but with grateful and appreciative guests it makes you feel good.
It makes a change for it to be dry and sunny on a bank holiday this year so I expect everyone was happy to get out and about for a few hours at the market. I haven’t been for a while but it can be a lively place on a good market day which is really lovely. Plenty of walking groups and cyclists going past the house here this afternoon.
Anyway, I hope your guests arrived and you dried out ? Have a lovely evening. Xxx

    1. My guests arrived eventually. I think there was some misunderstanding about when they were arriving. But alls well ends well. They’ve ordered breakfast so I’ll be back up early in the morning xx
