A small piece of dried fruit

Today has been about the gite and mindfulness in the main. We have three bookings for this week now so we need to ensure that everything is up and running. I really do need to update Airbnb, it just all takes time.

Today I attended the first of a new series of mindfulness sessions that I had booked. I am participating with two other women that I did a similar course with last autumn. It is with the same tutor who we all think is rather wonderful. This morning we had to engage in an exercise using a piece of dried fruit; concentrating on describing it when we looked at it; when we touched it and when we tasted it. The exercise helps to block out the world around us, something that as adults we often find extremely difficult. I do find that I am not particularly good at mindfulness on my own however when supported I engage and find the process really helpful. So I am already anticipating the next session. The one after that, weather permitting, we will be meditating in a wood. I’m really excited about that.

Most of the furniture removal within the gite is now complete. I put different rugs down in the rooms today. Apologies I forgot to photograph them. I am beginning to feel as though the whole place is looking as I would like it to. I need to purchase two single mattresses and then all of the rooms will be up and running. I must now start advertising all of the rooms, that way I might earn back some of what we’ve spent out!

Yesterday I was in Action, a shop similar to The Range in the UK, and saw that they were selling embroidery thread so I bought some with the intention of creating some crocheted jewelry with it. I had a go last night but found it to be considerably more difficult than I had anticipated. At the moment there is nothing to show because I frogged it all! I really like the colours, so I will keep trying.

Embroidery Thread

I hope you have had a positive day. Are there things that you do to help you cut out the noise of outside world?

  1. Gardening! I find it truly a meditation. Focus on the earth, it’s smells, it’s life, it’s total awesomeness. Unfortunately I can no longer garden barefoot since my legs stopped working properly- I used to love it.
I also used to find walking a meditative experience but unfortunately since arthritis got a grip I can no longer walk far
It took me several months to realise that mindfulness was not the ‘clearing the mind’ I thought it was but more a mental conveyor belt of noticing my thoughts and letting them go!
It’s a great way of learning to ‘be’. Enjoy!
Good luck with the ‘making’ jewellery 🤗

  2. Physical mindless actions, cutting grass, digging the garden, cleaning all of those are brain dumping activities for me. They require no thought but I can’t think of anything else. In those moments, I feel very grounded and peaceful. It’s the same process in which some people use noise to sleep. I use the sound of rain, sea and thunder t’ose d me to sleep. I must admit though, I’ve monotonous felt a moment’s stress, worry or unhappiness since moving to Brittany.

  3. It was a wonderful day and making a supportive, meaningful shared experience is all part of it. Thank you for such lovely comments. As a therapist, making a connection is a vital part to the outcome and to work with you all again is a continuation of that relationship for me.

I absolutely love the colours of the threads you have bought. I’m excited to see where your creativity leads you. I would imagine that as the thread if fine, that the work you do with it will be more time consuming?
Really great news that you have guests booked. I noticed a couple of camping cars about at Super U so I think for some the holiday season has begun. I hope it really takes off for you this summer. All of your hard work and efforts will undoubtedly be very appreciated by your guests and your pricing is exceptionally reasonable.
