Brightening the lock-down blues

Both of us admitted today that we were feeling a little down. The latest confinement, as it is called in France, is getting to us. Whilst there is some talk of opening up in May we do not know for certain that it will happen then. It is all a game of waiting and seeing.

So we needed to do somethings to cheer ourselves up. The first thing that we did was take the dogs for a long walk. Recently we haven’t been going on long walks so we realised that we need to get into the habit of doing so again. It is lovely to see that Spring is really springing. There are flowers coming out everywhere. There were some flowers that we have been watching develop over the last few weeks but we were not sure what they were, so we ensured that we photographed them whilst we were out. It would seem that the unidentified flowers are wood anemones.

I am continuing to decide how to create the poncho for a client. I thought that I would try to make some daisy granny squares. I quite like them because they are slightly textured with raised petals. Having tried them with yellow and white, I thought I might try yellow and pink and the idea is that I will use green around these. Do let me know what you think.

Finally I decided that we are into the season of Buddha bowls. The term is generic and refers to a dish that includes a number of different elements. I like the bright colours that such bowls can provide. So this evening we had a bowl that included; quinoa, spicy roasted chickpeas, celeriac tartare and a mixture of chard and kale. This certainly helped us to feel a little more positive. I promised yesterday I would include the bread pudding recipe. I have set up a new page on my site named recipes, and I will put it up there shortly.

So all in all quite a busy day. How do you brighten your day?

  1. I love my early morning walks especially when it’s frosty . Wednesday and weekends are extra long and as it’s lighter then the dogs get to run . My chill time is spent sewing though that can get stressful .
I think spring is my favourite season though I also like winter as long as not to wet

  2. A lovely blog Zenna. Recognition of how you feel is important to taking steps to change it into a direction you would rather be going in. You have each other to share emotions with and the ups and downs of your moods. It’s possible to be each other’s support and find and focus on ways to support each other. Chats together and find out what works for each one of you, that may be different things that lift your moods and not necessarily the same. So as an example, planning a special meal maybe something that one of you enjoys. The gathering of the foods, the planning of the meal, searching for the recipe, the mindfulness of the cooking and preparation, setting the mood and table, picking flowers for the table, eating together and setting the rules on a topic for the meal. Now that may be something that one of you enjoys. For the other one the enjoyment of the being the recipient of the time, the effort, the joy of eating a prepared meal, the topic of conversation, the mood etc. Or, for the other Pierson it could be watching a film. Finding things that you both enjoy that lift your mood but the other one doesn’t necessarily find has the same effect can be part of the caring support you give to each other. It’s a win win situation, even if it’s not something that particularly lifts your own personal mood, the fact that your are participating in it to help the other one is where you find your reward. It’s proven that helping someone with an ulturistic point of view gives enormous benefit to both people. Sit outside for an hour at night and watch the stars and see the Milky Way. We have wonderful skies here and we can track and see the space station overhead and other satalights. There are several ways to find when they appear in the sky. Make a flask, wrap up warm, take a recliner chair and watch. Think of all the things you may have done when you were a child and do them again ! The inner child is still there with all that magic and wonder and discovery and sometimes we need to search and find it again.
I had a special place where I went and left my worries and glumness behind in. An actual place for me when I was a Macmillan Nurse. Just to sit and think and make sense of it all and then leave it there.
The squares are lovely and I love the idea of the raised flower. Get as much daylight and sun as you can onto your skin the boost of vitamins makes us all more resilient and is really good for the moe Roy so Chris may benefit too. There is lots of research with memory loss that supports this thought.
It’s good to talk about things and get the thoughts out there, bounce them around a bit and get them out of your mind.
    Sending love. Xx

    1. Thank you for taking the time to right such a wonderful response with such lovely suggestions. We both walked around talking about how wonderful it was to see the sun. I like the sound of spending time looking at the stars xx
