Cats and crochet

Not something that is likely to mix well. They are not necessarily linked. However today has been focused on these two things. Given that my lymph nodes remain extremely painful and I’m now taking painkillers and trying not to move around too much, I wasn’t going anywhere today.

The cat, no name yet remains in hiding. He was in a void under some floorboards. Having come out from there that has now been blocked and he has managed to get in behind some panelling. My husband has removed part of the panelling in order that we can, with great difficulty, see the cat. Unfortunately the cat is not for coming out and Chris has suffered further injuries from said cat. I tried to put my camera in behind the panelling and take photos of the cat, unfortunately they haven’t come out. I have contacted the rescue centre tonight who seem to think that all is well. The jury is well and truly out on that one!

I have spent a certain amount of the day working on the coatigan which is really very nearly finished! One of the things about putting something like this together is that you do need to check that you are putting squares together in the correct order. So I have 8 each of 4 different patterns. In order to have them looking right it is necessary to ensure that you have the right pattern in each row. I spent as much time last night undoing my work as doing it. So today I was determined that I started earlier in the day when I was less tired and was able to use natural daylight to see what I am doing. Even then I managed to put something together incorrectly. Luckily I noticed before I began sewing, so was able to change it before I wasted time. Once the final seam has been sewn up, which is what I am doing at the moment, I can then crochet the edging around the entire coatigan. I am hoping that I will at least start this this evening. I’m sure my client will be pleased to hear this!

A slow but relatively productive day. Has anyone been doing anything creative themselves today?

  1. Hi Zenna. Not much to write about here! Went over into Plymouth to shop at Lidl (my absolutely favourite food shop) and couldn’t resist buying a quite large clematis. Went out to plant it and had a nice potter round the back garden before mowing the front lawn
The front ‘lawn’ here requires explanation! It’s huge (corner plot) It’s got something resembling grass but is more like moorland grass plus the biggest crop of daises you could imagine – and dandelions – and other assorted flowering weeds! I’ve also got a patch with rotting wood (for insects) and a pond for wildlife, with a medium sized bed of wild and cultivated plants for bees etc Plus quite a large low level shrubbery under planted with spring bulbs
Just to make life difficult …. over the last couple of years I’ve been planting spring bulbs in the lawn (method in madness – if I want to leave daises and dandelions for early nectar then some spring bulbs make it look like it’s meant to be)!
SO normal mowing at this time of year is out – but as the garden is on a highly visible, prominent position on the waterfront, I try to keep it looking loosely ‘managed’. Hence: spent all afternoon just mowing and trimming the edges of the lawn! Can’t move now! 🙄
On the cat front: Jills cat went missing 18 months ago but was chipped. She spent months at Stoke beach searching but finally gave up! He turned up last week (near home – Plympton – 15 miles from where last seen)! He’s obviously been feral and won’t let anyone but Jill touch him Just over a week on and he still hides anywhere he can get to – the smaller the better!
I only tell you this because he’s obviously been through the mill like your little mite
I’m sure, with care, the cat will come to trust 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 Sending love 🤗

    1. Sounds as though you’ve been busy. I remember Jill going back to Stoke beach to look for him. Lovely that he’s made it home. I think we just have to give him time and see what happens.

  2. It sounds like a good day all in all. The crochet squares are looking lovely and the thing about handmade things is the love and attention that goes into their creation. Dean makes wands from natural wood and we know the care and attention that goes into them. When someone purchases an item it is the years of practice and self detvelopment that they are also getting included in the handmade product. Great work Zenna !
The cat ! Well at least you know where it is and that in itself is a bonus. Do you think it is afraid of dogs ? Our cat is terrified of dogs but it has never co existed with one so only natural.

It’s been a sunny, good day here. All boys happily engaged in education and me doing some work online. The loft is almost completed and has created a beautiful room which we use as a music/ bedroom. Next step is the middle floor to convert back into two bedrooms. Bitter in the wind but boiling in the poly tunnel, which is were Dylan and I did learning this afternoon.
Yes, rest and take it easy while your body re alignment with the vaccine takes place. Sending love. Xx

    1. The cat has lived with dogs before so that shouldn’t be a problem. He’s in the loft which we’re in the process of making into a room. The dogs don’t go up there. I recently went up to check on him and he’s moved so I’m not sure where he is!
I went into our poly tunnel earlier and was surprised by how warm it was. And yes am resting a bit xx

  3. Crikey he is giving you the run around. He should calm down soon though if it’s familiar with other pets. When it’s cold inside the house it’s always warm in the polytunnel ! Hahaha. Lovely light in there too. I almost took off my winter boots today but then I thought better of it !
Have a lovely evening crafting, chilling and getting better. Xx
