The escapologist

As so often is the way here, we plan a particular day and then discover that we need to re-adjust our plans as the day progresses. So we have not achieved very much at all. And there has been the small issue of the missing cat!

Yesterday afternoon I was aware that Choupi was moving around upstairs. We were keeping out of his way in order that he had the opportunity to settle. However towards the end of the evening we realised that we could no longer see him. We had a good look around but my other half thought that he had gone behind some boarding. We decided to leave him for the night and see whether he would come out by the morning.

This morning we had to be out quite early because we both had GP appointments. So whilst we had a quick look for Choupi we knew we would have to leave him until later. He had food, water and a litter tray so we knew that he could come to no harm. So we set off. We thought that we’d be back shortly after 10am. How wrong could we be?

I have had various problems since I had had my inoculation last week. This was the reason that I was seeing the GP. Since Sunday I have had a pain in my groin which has been getting worse so I needed to have it checked. The GP decided that my leg needed scanning and that I needed a blood test and both needed doing today. Whilst they don’t book it for you she gave me three alternatives to ring for the scan and told me that I could walk into a centre and get the blood test. Thankfully I don’t have a thrombosis I have a swollen lymph node. Apparently this is almost certainly my body reacting to the vaccine. Whilst I have had a quite a few reactions to the jab, I’m still relieved that I have had it.

So when we came home we started a serious search for the cat. We couldn’t find him. We started to wonder whether there were holes in our house that we weren’t aware of. We went outside and surveyed our house. No, no holes. So back inside we continued searching for our little Houdini. I was in one room when I heard my husband make a noise as though he was in pain. I ran to find out what he had done. ‘I’ve found the cat’ he said. So Choupi has found a space under the floor in the room that he is in. My husband had put his hand into the void to see whether there was anything there and it seems that there was. He bit and drew blood! Unfortunately he still wants to be under the floorboards. We have put food and water where he can reach it and hope that he will decide to come out soon!

I hope your day has been more productive than mine. Do let me know what you have been doing and whether your plans have had to change for reasons beyond your control?

  1. Oh my ! What a day it has been for you both… I have found in all seriousness that there is something very different about French animals ! Haha. We had goats that escaped no matter what, pigs that were feral, chickens that ate each other, rabbits that drew blood and ducks that didn’t like water ! Raising our own meat for 10 years was virtually a labour of love and frustration. All our french neighbors seemed to have the most obedient animals on this earth, yet all of ours were utterly wild ! You’re little Houdini sounds like something we would have had. I’m sure that eventually the cat will settle and come out of its hiding place. After all, it can’t stay down there forever…….can it !?
Yes I absolutely have to change plans all the time, that’s why I rarely make any, unless they are for work. Tonight I had a couple of emergency clients so my evening is a late one but I never mind that to be honest. As long as everyone is fed, the house is tidy….ish, clean clothes are ready and everyone is content and purposefully, it’s been a good day !! Dean plans on having the ride on ready for its inauguration by the end of the weekend !!! Several new parts are now lined up and waiting for attention so I am hopeful that the first cut is nearing my list of jobs to be done. The dandelions are setting seed so I am happy to give it a trim.
I’ve been exploring lanes due to the travel restrictions and as long as I take a left turn when I ‘be almost had enough I am sure it will eventually lead me home ! I may never be seen again at this rate of orienteering.
Pleased that all is well with your groin though. Better to be checked and feel certain that all is well. Xx
