Today has been dominated by having a covid jab. However I have managed some other things too. Including the very boring job of re-winding yarn!
We both overslept this morning, we were obviously both really tired yesterday. Tulips, beach, picnic and market were probably too much! As a result very little was done this morning before I went for my jab. It was all very efficient. My gp gave me the jab and then booked my second jab. As with the UK a longer gap is being left between my first and second inoculation. It will be 8 weeks before I have my second jab. My gp then gave me paperwork that proves that I have had the jab. She seems to think that I will need it. I will wait and see. I was given Astra Zeneca, she made some joke about it being British so I should be fine with it!
This evening at 8pm Macron is speaking. So it maybe that there will be discussion of vaccine passports and other such measures. We are worried that we may be going into a further lockdown. The numbers with covid in France are on the increase, though Brittany is not effected. There are currently more in intensive care than at any other point during the pandemic. Although people are not supposed to be leaving areas such as Paris it would seem that they are. As I am sat here out the front of our cottage a car with a Parisian number on its number plate has just passed me. In France all car number plates include the number of the department in which the car is registered. So here in Finisterre for example we all have 29 on our number plates, whilst central Paris is 75. A car with such a plate has just driven past.
Having been told all of the horror stories of how some people react I had intended to have a quiet day, just in case. One of the jobs that I have been putting off is winding yarn. It’s boring but it has to be done. I managed to purchase some yarn a while ago that is a great colour but extremely thin. So I have to create three similar sized balls of yarn and then re-wind them in order that they become one ball that I can work with. This took a couple of hours this afternoon. Now it’s been done I can carry on and complete my current project.

It has been another hot day here so to finish off the afternoon we took the dogs to Lac du Drennec to let the retrievers swim. Nancy, the terrier is not really keen on the water. She did however deign to paddle and get her feet wet.

So have any of you had your covid jab yet? Have you been affected by it?
I’m glad you have had the jab now Zenna. Did both of you have it? My arm hurt for a few days and I felt tired but otherwise I was fine.
Are you in lockdown now? Wales has opened up and we can travel around but we still need to be careful. I so don’t want a third lockdown!

It’s starting to hurt a little now but I feel ok. At the moment it’s only me, but I’m hoping to sort out Chris shortly. And yes we’re back in to lock down for about 4 to 6 weeks. Not as harsh as before but still not fun. I just hope that the vaccinations start to make a real difference soon xx

I had the first jab (Astra Zenaca) on the 22nd March. That evening I was so tired I went to bed at 9pm. I woke in the night dripping with sweat and running a fever. It lasted one night only and was pretty much gone in the morning. I had a bit of a sore arm for a couple of days after that. The way I see it, it’s better than getting the virus itself…. so not too bothered by the side effects.
Looks like France 🇫🇷 is now in another lockdown. Summer hols for us in the summer seems to be getting further away 😔

Yes back into lock down though Macron talked about speeding up the vaccination roll out and having terraces open by the middle of May which given they’re all closed at the moment gives some hope. I really hope that there will be some relaxation in travel restrictions. I’m desperate to see the boys.

Over here Zenna it’s twelve weeks between each jab. Allan has just booked his second one today. Mine should be soon. Enjoying your blogs. We’ve booked to go to Old Macs in September, now just called Macdonalds Farm. Log onto their website, they’ve changed it quite a lot. You can get from camping field into the farm to some new pitches, making the farm smaller. Not opening to day visitors every day. The train has gone! 😢. We’re just interested to see it and it’s a good base for a Cornwall fix! Our weather here today was meant to be hot, as yesterday was, but it was just a hazy day. Hope Billy and Henry are both well, bet you miss them not being able to see them. I’ve hardly seen Jasmin this last year as she’s working in a school, lives with her boyfriend. At the moment she has yet another chest infection , and as Allan has asthma he’s been vulnerable so she’s kept away. Not seen my eldest son much either. Only got Kenan at home but my Emma I see as we look after little Arthur after school two or three days a week. Keeps us busy anyway! Haven’t found lockdown too bad, like to bake and have made lemon curd, marmalade . Lots of knitting and reading. I’ve book boxes outside on the wall which local people are enjoying, someone started the group , there are lots of books around the area. Great to chat to chat to folk as they choose books! Some people say we’re keeping them going through lockdown with charity shops and libraries closed! Anyway, I’ve gone on a bit here!! Liz xx

Hi Liz, lovely to read your comments. I’ll have to take a look at the McDonald’s website. I know it’s 12 weeks between jabs in the UK, I’d assumed that it would be a shorter gap in France. It’s so hard not seeing children. I miss the boys terribly. They both seem to be coping though. I love your book box. These things are so important in these strange times. Anything we can do to get through it. Xx

So pleased you had your vaccine and it went smoothly for you. I hope you are feeling well today and only have minimal side effects, if any.
No vaccines for us, neither of us are eligible as we don’t have any co morbidity. We all had covid last year and we relatively fine. It was similar to a severe flu for us. We won’t be having the vaccine until we reach an age whereby we are ill enough for covid to pose a risk to our health. However if I was in a group which research showed I needed it then I would take it. My mother has had both her vaccines and was fine after both.
Yes, back into lockdown which we don’t mind. Although the numbers are lower than most places here, they are still increasing and I think with the holiday season here for Easter it would have risen .
Macron has said that anyone who is wishing to travel to a second home is allowed to do so as long as they are where they are staying by Saturday night, so there will be plenty of movement for a few days. A while ago the law changed regarding number plates and it’s no longer necessary to change number plates here if a car moves department. They only need to be changed if they have the older type number plate. It is one of the reasons why there are so many plates about from other areas.
As we’re selling our house this year I’m quite pleased that so many Parisians want to come to Finistere. I’m hoping one will buy our house !! Hahaha
It was a lovely day yesterday and we don’t cut our grass until the dandelions have set seed, so that means both the bees and pollinating insects as well as myself get to forage. I picked my first Spring salad last night for tea and it was wonderful. Xxx

I saw a photo of your salad and was going to say that I thought I might pop around for tea! I think that people will find another lock down challenging but I hope that the vaccine roll out will provide a way out of this.

Thank you Zenna. I’m normally a massive forager but Spring is the best time of all. I just saw the list of everywhere that’s still open. Other than clothes shops it seems everything is as normal but we can’t go to the beach. Never mind when this is finished I shall be there with the children for a good walk. Xx

I hadn’t thought of no beach. At least we are in beautiful surroundings and can walk by two lakes.
