Pantoufles, a lazy day and sunburst granny squares.

Last night I had a stall at Quinoualc’h market. With the curfew being pushed back to 7pm we were able to be open longer and it felt as though less people came but I don’t think that was necessarily the case. Instead people came across all three hours rather than the two.

I got my other half to take photos of me and the stall set up and I have decided that I need to learn to smile in photographs, I feel that I look really severe! Last night I sold some items. A friend had said that she wanted to come and she arrived and bought two items, which was great. For most of the evening a young boy coveted a pair of chenille slippers or pantoufles as they are called in French. (I rather like the French word is sounds comforting in a way that slippers doesn’t). The pantoufles were turquoise chenille and I had thought that they would appeal to a girl. I am someone who has spent years working to challenge gender stereotypes and I am horrified to see that I was applying them myself. After various visits to my stall in which he gently stroked the pantoufles he persuaded his dad to give him the money and arrived clutching the money tightly in his hand. Once he had paid for them he spent the rest of the evening wearing them on his hands. I did point out that they weren’t gloves, he said, ‘I know but I have shoes on’. We agreed he was quite right. It was lovely to see someone so pleased with something that I had created.

Today I thought I’d have a bit of a lazy day. Having said that my car was going for a service and had to be dropped off first thing. I had a load of washing in the machine and that needed to go onto the line. One of our trailers was overflowing and needed taking to the tip, so that was the next task of the day. I finally managed to make the online transaction I was battling with yesterday. I had an enquiry that became a booking for the gite d’etape which I had to answer, as well as a quick general clear up of emails.

I then decided I should focus on an order for a client. She has ordered a coatigan similar to the one I made for myself a few weeks ago. The main part of the coatigan is made up of 32 starburst granny squares. You start with the starbursts, and then crochet around them to create a square. All 32 have now been created and by the end of today I will have turned half of them into complete squares. So I feel that I am making real progress. Seeing piles of squares created is very satisfying.

So for a day which I considered to be lazy, I’ve managed to achieve quite a few things. Are there days which you consider lazy which turn out to be quite busy and productive?

  1. All my days are lazy now Zenna – apart from cleaning, cooking, washing, ironing, digging, planting, etc. I don’t know how I fitted in the required 60 hours per week when we worked together – and did all the other stuff!
It must be nice having control over your own days now – just take care to make certain you really do have lazy days! 🤗

    1. I don’t think of cooking, cleaning, ironing etc as lazy! Yes I will be having lazy days. I’m probably going to Torc’h next week to see the tulips. If we go I’ll be taking photos!

  2. That sounded like a working day if you ask me…… Achieving lots is great.
I was awake with the pre-dawn chorus so cracked on with some work and by 9 had achieved a lot.
Lazy days are now catching up on reading and friends on the phone.
Zenna you sound so relaxed – it is a joy to read xxx
