2 hours?!

So another busy day has passed in a flash! One of the issues here is that whilst there is often little traffic on the road we have to travel a distance to get to things. So often parts of my day are lost in getting from one place to another.

This morning I had a GP appointment and the drive is nearly half-an-hour in each direction so it takes up quite a lot of time. Thursday morning is also the when the weekly market occurs in Huelgoat. I don’t go every week but I do like to go regularly and get there most weeks. So I went for fruit, vegetables and fish this morning. Over the winter the market was reduced to only a few stalls, now each week it is possible to see that it is growing and more stalls are coming back.

Having taken the decision to do a market stall myself I thought that I would try and make some items that may be considered more impulse buys. So given it is a mostly food market, where I have a stall, I thought that I would make a couple of shopping bags that would be useful for putting fruit and veg in. I spent some time looking for a pattern and found one that stated that it only takes 2 hours to complete. I decided that this was as good as any. Well I started it on Tuesday evening, I did some more yesterday evening and spent 2 hours working on it this afternoon thinking that I would share the finished item. I am now very close to being finished however I think that there is another hour or so to do. I don’t claim to be the world speed champion of crochet, but I’m not that slow! Whilst I don’t expect that someone can predict exactly how long something will take me to make, I am a little peeved that the suggestion is so woefully inaccurate. I have two orders that I put on the back burner to do this! If my clients are reading, I’m getting back on your items, I just must finish the bag!

So are there things that you engage with that state that they will take X amount of your time and end up taking Y? And how do you feel when something that you thought would be quick and straight forward ends up taking up considerably more of your time?

  1. Yes ! Renovating our house ! Haha The trouble is that we moved into the house just before my third son was born, so it was finished to a point but not completely. 8 years later and we are just finishing the final jobs prior to selling ! I know this is a common issue, but in the next house we are definitely not moving in until the curtains are up ! Haha
Impulse buys are a great idea for the market, especially bags. How about a baguette bag or two ? What about bee wrap covers also. I often thought about making some myself but haven’t got around to it. I’m used to driving about as I’ve always chosen to live in the countryside as an adult, however, France does put a new challenge on that concept, especially with the constant closing of business for mealtime, restocking etc. Have you tried the Dr in Pleyber Christ. She is super lovely and highly recommend her. Xxx

    1. Thank you for your comments. I know the renovation pain. Being married to a builder means that nothing is ever completed until we’re about to move out!
I’d like to know what a bee wrap is, sounds very interesting!
My gp is lovely so happy to travel. xx

  2. I always underestimate time. I Start each day with mental list and try to complete everything but rarely do! If I don’t complete the list I kick myself … have done this since I first started work at 16 so it’s unlikely to change. Perhaps it’s this time slip that made us both workaholics?
