It’s hard to imagine that in rural Brittany that there is much to do. However each day appears to bring it’s own challenges. I slept better and was up with the alarm and so was able to complete an hour’s dog walk and a half-hour pilates video this morning.

This evening I will be having my first market stall at Quinoualc’h market. With this in mind I put a cassoulet in the slower cooker this morning. One of my favourite pieces of kitchen equipment is definitely my slower cooker, I cannot imagine how you would live with out one! Having thrown everything in this morning when we come back this evening dinner will be cooked and we can literally dish it up and eat it.
Fire wood is almost an obsession in rural France and particularly in Brittany. Most older homes, ours included, relies on some form of wood fired heating. As a result being able to source wood becomes extremely important. You do find that you end up joining in with the obsession; pointing out particularly attractively stacked log piles or engaging in wood pile envy. In the autumn we ordered a cord, 3m x1m x 1m, of fire wood. That has long since been finished and we have been scrabbling to find a source for some time. Last Friday I found a source and today it was delivered. Moving the logs from one end of our drive to the other is actually quite hard work but it has to be done. Once you have paid for dry wood, you need to ensure that is remains that way for when you want to use it. As I was stacking out the wood today I found this piece, which I felt was too good to burn. So it has been saved. So ideas for how I might use it would be great.

Tomorrow I will let you know how my first market stall goes. I’m nervous now!

You will be fine at the market stall, it is daunting at first, I remember my first one, but just be you smile and get them talking, what does the other side of the piece of wood you have kept look like?

Thank you Tracy, that’s kind. It’s made worse because I’m a bit concerned about the speaking French! But it’ll be good for me. I’ll photograph the other side of the piece of wood tomorrow.

Hope the market goes well Zenna. I’m sure you will be engaging and everyone will want to speak to this new person.
