I am married and live with my husband in France with our three dogs. I have two children who currently live in the UK and under normal circumstances visit us regularly. This last year has not been normal circumstances. Though some who know us would argue that there are never normal circumstances for us.

We made the permanent move to France during the pandemic. I had had a period of sick leave from work which was related to stress. The decision was taken that we could live a more simple way of life with less capital outlay in Brittany. We now live in a cottage that we have owned for 4 years and remains under renovation. We also own a second house that I run as a gite d’etape, a cross between a bed and breakfast and a bunk house. I would like to make clear at this stage that we are not escaping the city with pots of money. The two properties cost less than £60,000, the one we live in wasn’t habitable when we bought it. We live in it now; though many wouldn’t!

Between the two these keep me busy however this is a different busy to that which I was used to in my previous life. Something I might discuss later.
