I need to start by saying thank you to everyone who left words of support yesterday. What I have been finding hardest is that the booking company, Airbnb, and bosses who are booking on behalf of their staff. This is where the majority of the problems lie. Yesterday afternoon I had someone wanting to book my 3 person room for a group of their staff. I explained that it wouldn’t be suitable given that it has a double bed and one single. She persisted, saying that her staff were used to having to share a bed. I explained that it wasn’t happening in my premises!
I don’t think that either Chris or I can believe that it’s only Wednesday. It feels as though it has been a full 7 days since Monday already. As with all walks of life it only takes one! I’ve had two couples in for two nights. They were delightful, no problems and the rooms left clean and tidy. In fact one couple not only stripped their bed but brought all the washing downstairs too! They were a lovely couple and it’s their dog who is currently on the gîte’s Facebook page. The other couple said that they had been planning a walk but they hadn’t got around to it. However they had taken the opportunity to unwind, something we agreed is the purpose of a holiday.
I am now back to being weather obsessed because I have so much laundry. It seems that days here can often start with a really light drizzle, then, like today, they reach nearly 30°C. So this morning whilst there was a light drizzle I could be seen hanging washing on the line. It has dried and the second load is now on the line, whilst the 3rd is in the machine, and I have a 12kg machine! Thankfully there won’t be as much tomorrow, though Friday and the weekend will be manic!
This will not surprise any of my friends who live here, I’m off to decide what to do with courgettes. I don’t think I would have believed you if you’d told me before I lived here, that they grow like weeds, but they do. We already have two types of chutney and have used them in salads, fritters and stir fried. Apparently you can even make mock apple pies with them. I think it’s pasta this evening.

Until tomorrow…
Courgettes are perfect spaghetti sub! I use them in loads of soups and curries and under roast chicken (then whizz em up for gravy with chicken juices). I don’t have your talent for chutney making!
Funnily enough your weather comments are similar to hear. Damp mornings with heavy damp air (little rain) then baking sun with breezes whipping up later in the day)
Perhaps a polite email to people who come to the gite about what they can expect to find and what you expect in terms of how they leave the place is in order? You could do it in a really open friendly ‘chatty’ way?
Sounds exhausting- but then some people are just seriously hard work!
Try and get your feet up in between guests – as I’ve said (until I’m blue in the face) you always take on too much!!!!
Chill, enjoy the spaces in between the hectic bits – and don’t fill them up with work! Sending love 🤗
