A weekend of firsts

Friday evening was fun, though challenging and tiring. We were the only English guests at the soirée. So it was speaking French all the way. Strangely there almost seemed to be a signal and we all left. We took our cues from those around us. I think we mostly got it right. If we don’t get invited to the next event we’ll know we got it wrong!

On Saturday we went out for the night in our new folding caravan. It was very much a trial run and a useful exercise because there are several things that we need to sort out. When we set off we must have looked as though we were going for a month. The car was full of items that we will be leaving permanently inside the van. However until it was opened up we couldn’t put anything inside.

We had asked for a pitch with electric hook-up. Unfortunately the cable that we had was too short so we weren’t able to make use of it. The previous owner didn’t use a leisure battery, so there was no possibility of using a 12 volt system either. So we now know that we need a much longer lead and a leisure battery. We are actually thinking about investing in a solar panel. The only things that we are going to run is usb chargers, lights and the fridge so we may save on on-site electric fees and use a solar system. We are currently looking into it.

We happen to have a spare mattress topper, so I put that in the caravan. It is now the most comfortable caravan bed that I have ever slept in. We passed a really comfortable night and are looking forward to going out in it again. We didn’t get around to testing the awning, that will have to wait until next time.

Given that we were out on Friday evening and away on Saturday evening I haven’t made a huge amount of progress with the dress. Having said that I have finished the skirt section and the neckline. I am now really hopeful that I will have it finished in the next few days. I will have a lot of ends to finish up but it should be ready. I just hope I like it!

Until tomorrow…

  1. Glad the van was a success. Sounds like a great investment!
Our solar panels operate on minimal sunshine – I would definitely give it a try!
Why don’t you invite the French round to yours and treat them to your brilliant cooking? 😘
You will smash the dress so don’t stress 🤗

    1. We will certainly invest in panels. The French came to our barbeque and I had cooked a few things for that, though I think they mostly ate sausages! And the dress is finished!
