And radishes for tea!

Today has been a mixture of things that I had expected to do, things that were a nuisance and not doing what I would usually do. My husband was due a pension payment yesterday but it didn’t arrive. The email response was to check with the bank. Well guess what we’d already done that. A phone call to the UK allowed us to discover that they hadn’t bothered to send it until today. A trip to the bank showed it hasn’t arrived and not to expect it until Monday!

As individuals it seems that we often come off worse and you are left wondering whether we have any recourse. The initial information stated that the funds would be released on the 5th. We now know that they weren’t released until the 6th and he probably won’t receive them until the 9th. Now the sum would seem paltry to many. However, there is a not unreasonable question. Where are the funds and who is earning out of them? Whilst I try to look for the positive in many things, on this occasion it is hard to do so when it is clear that those with far deeper pockets are undoubtedly benefiting at our expense. I am certain there is no simple solution however we will be asking questions and perhaps as individuals we should be doing so more often. There are times when people power wins out.

This afternoon I went to Les Puces to teach crochet again. I am particularly pleased that the woman who said that she wanted to learn but didn’t think that she would be able to do so, is now crocheting. Today she mastered the magic circle which gives a beautifully closed centre to your work. The others also all made good progress. One signed up for my workshop weekend and two others are thinking about it. So hopefully it will be full

Normally Friday late afternoon is Pilates. However, having fallen over earlier in the week and having bruised both my knee and my shin I decided that up and down off the mat would not aid recovery. I have given it a miss this week.

Chris also finished early today. So we have been sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine and listening to the birds. I’ve been crocheting too because that’s just enjoyable! It has been incredible to hear how many different varieties of birds that there are. Chris is much better at identifying them than me, though I know that I have heard both the wood pigeon and the cuckoo. We have had a drink and Chris has even picked some of his radishes to go in our salad. A very pleasant end to the week.

Thank you for continuing to follow my blog. I hope that you all have a great weekend. Until Monday…

  1. Philosophically, back to control then. I keep an overdraft on my account for emergencies- out of the blue Barclays wrote saying ‘we’re planning to withdraw your overdraft limit’ because ‘it’s important our customers aren’t borrowing more than they can afford’ and ‘you haven’t used it’!
I was boiling with rage! I’m VERY careful with money (having been through the eat v heat years in the 80s) BUT without me ever having indicated I can’t manage my money, never having been in problematic borrowing AND Barclays have a forty year record of that – I suddenly get an insulting and offensive letter from them!
I guess it’s a standard letter because of our disastrous economic outlook (and it’s not that I have ever used the bloody overdraft) but it’s hardly the point. As you rightly say – power operates randomly running like a computer operating system ‘computer says no’!
Thank goodness for gardens, 🦋🦊🐭🐸🐰🐣🦉🐝🐛🐌🪲🕷🐞- and of course the 🍺🍷 to go with it!
Enjoy your weekend- and don’t let the machine grind you down 🤗

    1. Apologies for not responding to this sooner. Bizarrely we continue to have a very large overdraft facility in the UK which we don’t appear to be able to get rid of! We need to both be in the UK at the same time. This is proving somewhat challenging!
