The three C’s and crochet!

The other day I saw a même on someone’s Facebook page. I rather liked the sentiment. It seems on further investigation that it is a quote that is related to mindfulness. Part of the purpose of this blog is to reflect on mindfulness and to consider how it can support change in our lives.

I think that it is easy to suggest that we all have choices in life. In reality of course we do. However at times of challenge, another c, it can often seem that there are no choices available to us. Therefore doing anything different can take courage.

Chance seems often to be associated with notions of gambling. If you are already feeling challenged, taking a chance can inevitably feel almost impossible. At least you can understand the current situation. A new one may only be worse.

Of course change is what is needed to start to be in a better position. So it is only by taking that chance that there is ever any possibility of change. Of course change for the sake of change is no good. However change that is purposeful is what is important.

For me the 4th c is crochet! I am certain that crochet has really supported mindfulness for me over the last two years. It also allows me to be creative. There of course many things that support mindfulness, crochet is just one that works for me. I know that knitting is also considered to be particularly helpful.

I discovered today that during both World War 1 and World War II a number of songs were written about knitting. Of course one of the reasons was to encourage the women left behind to do their bit for the war effort. I am quite fascinated by this and plan to research it further.

Until tomorrow…

  1. That’s a lovely quote and of course is quite true. As you know, I have often said that doing something new is extremely good for our mental health and certainly good for our neurons. I was reading the other day about the benefits of playing music our loud as opposed to just through earphones. It has a completely different effect on our brain activity. Playing music ‘old style’ changes an atmosphere in a collective space, such as a house or venue. Playing music just through earphones keeps that experience internal to the peorson listening. As we are more inclined to listen through earphones now, it might be related to some of the mood disorders that are experienced by so many , especially young people. I often remember when I have walked through a street and heard someone playing music in their house and how it has affected my mood. A tangible thing. We are also much more likely to add in another experience when we listen to music played out loud and that is, we sing, tap or simply dance. These are things we seldom do when having earphones.
I hope your kitchen is going well at the gite.
Have a really lovely evening ! Still bright and the sky is blue. Xx

    1. So fascinating. Children cannot learn to talk by listening to recorded voices or from television. So clearly something that happens to the neural pathways. Yes lovely evening.
We are making progress but it’s slow going!
