A jolly afternoon

Today was the first time I have been to knit and natter for three weeks. It was really good to get back to it. It was a really good session. Two people came who’d not been before. They seemed to enjoy their afternoon and said that they will be back again next week.

As the afternoon progressed people came and went. Some of them not to knit or crochet but to sit and natter. I do think that the importance of spending time with others is often overlooked. When we consider our wellbeing; sitting sharing and exchanging ideas and experiences are so important.

When I walked into Sur La Route, the bookshop café where we meet, I automatically put on a mask. It would seem that since Monday we no longer need to wear them. For the last two years they have become such the norm it seems strange not to need one. The act of covering our faces has had an impact on our ability to communicate. I have commented many times on how COVID has impacted on our wellbeing and mental health. It is wonderful that communication may be becoming freer particularly at a time when new issues are being faced.

The war in Ukraine was a subject of conversation. Unfortunately we are watching, helpless and frightened by what we are seeing. We don’t know what will happen. I think that we were all agreed that Putin needs to be enabled to climb down from his position whilst feeling as though he has not been made to look foolish or as a failure on the international stage. None of this is straightforward. All of this means that it is necessary to think carefully about our wellbeing.

Part of the way in which I think about mindfulness and wellbeing is through food. I do think that creating good quality meals for myself ensures that I am well-nourished. The process also adds to my sense of being cared for. Last night the galettes went well and I was very pleased with how they turned out.

Tomorrow is market in Huelgoat. So my plans include going there. We seem to be quite low on what might be called the basics so I may have to go to a supermarket too, something I enjoy less.

Until tomorrow…
