Updates…

When we came to France we had a pile of laptops and tablets many of which haven’t worked properly for years. We need a laptop and a phone each but really nothing more than that. After some time of trying to fix things ourselves,no joy of course, we finally found someone who could help. So we gave him a pile of devices a fortnight ago. I kept hold of my current laptop because I needed to have one. Today we retrieved a working laptop and handed over the one that I have been using in order to get that one working better.

This afternoon has been a fairly relentless battle of getting the returned laptop logged into my Google and Microsoft accounts. For several hours I couldn’t get into Microsoft. However once I could get into Google, miraculously I could log into the other. As I gain more and more experience of IT, I realize the less and less I know! Currently an update that says it will be done ‘in just a moment’ has been running for about half an hour!

Sometimes I feel particularly blessed by the friends I have. I am still feeling far from myself. I am hoping that with rest and the right medication I will be feeling better very soon. Whilst I was out briefly, acting as translator for Chris, they dropped off a bunch of flowers to cheer me up. Such a lovely thought.

I thought I might provide a teaser from the new garment. As I said yesterday it makes use of both knitting and crochet. Here is a crochet section.

I hope you all have a good evening. Do let me know if there are things that you want to see more of on my blog. Until tomorrow…

  1. Just seen your last post and the fabulous finished dress! You are SO talented!
I really love the colours of the sample on todays blog too
You have inspired me to learn crocheting- I’ve been trying to learn from YouTube with little success) Yesterday at my U3A group I was delighted to learn that somebody is going to run a couple of workshops for beginners 🧞‍♀️ I’m so excited! I will let you know how I get on – no dates yet!
Sorry to hear you are still not ‘feeling yourself’. I think it’s an interesting description of feelings, as everyone who goes through major changes (in my case retirement) experiences disruption to their sense of self.
I realise we each experience life differently (and your change was much more traumatic) but I often reflect on that sense of ‘self’. For example: you may remember I was a ‘can’t cook won’t cook – ready meals from M&S sort of woman!
What retirement (and particularly lockdown) did was give me the opportunity to change that sense of self – so I learned how to make sourdough; cheese, and a whole range of different meals – including some really tasty veggie meals (still not a vegetarian). On sunny days I gardened and developed a passion for ‘wilding’ the garden and watching the birds (and me the towniest of townies)!
I realise this new sense of self was ‘chosen’, well sort of. But my point is ‘feeling myself’ is now experienced as very different from the old way of ‘feeling myself’.
I thought I would share this feeling and I realise it may be completely irrelevant to your experience- but there’s just a chance it might be helpful in some way (and one if the ways I’ve changed is I’m no longer afraid of appearing to be stupid)!
Anyway sending love and hugs across the Channel 🤗🤗🤗

    1. Thank you for this, so lovely. My not feeling myself has been because I’m not well. My thyroid is completely out. However I hope to be back to normal relatively soon.

I think the cooking and the gardening was probably always there. They are ways of taking care of ourselves. Our work was overwhelming and it very nearly got me. I chose to get out instead.

If you are looking to learn crochet then I recommend Bella Coco on YouTube. There is something that I think blocked me from learning in the past. I associated knitting with 2 needles and so 2 hands. Crochet is one needle but is still very much 2 hands! Good luck.
