What a weekend!

Weavers, spinners and dyers, a crochet Christmas tree, and a Christmas market. I am not certain how we fitted everything in this weekend. In the next day or two I shall have a break! I have decided that I will do the market on Wednesday evening but the other one I am going to leave. More of that shortly.

Saturday I drove to Gouarec which is about an hour away from me. The Brittany Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, were having an exhibition. The women that I met were really helpful and more than happy to talk to me about artisan yarns. I feel that I have collated information that I will be able to use to write my article. I think I will also consider the green angle of artisan yarn because of course many of these yarns have an extremely low carbon footprint given that the sheep, goats and alpacas whose fleeces are used are either kept by the spinners or are sourced locally. The processes of cleaning, spinning and dying also occurs in the locality. The women that I met were also using natural materials to create the dyes for their yarns. Therefore all aspects of producing the yarn appear to be an ecologically sound process.

Saturday evening was the illumination of the Christmas tree. It does look incredibly impressive now that it is completed, assembled and lit up. Whilst I took a number of photographs I am not sure that my photographs do it justice. So given that the local paper took photographs I am providing a link to their article. I have also included some of mine to show one or two of the squares that I contributed!

Yesterday was a long day. The market was from 10am to 6pm. The market was indoors and the hall was well heated so much nicer than last week. Impressively all stall keeperswere given a lunch voucher for a savoury crepe, a sweet crepe and a coffee. Most stall holders, me included, had two people on their stall. Given I paid 10 euros for the stall I think they gave me that back in food. It was a good atmosphere. I didn’t sell much however I did have a number of people ask for a card. So I can but hope that some people will contact me with orders. One lady arrived spotted my Christmas hats, immediately chose one, bought it and put it straight on. She was happy for me to photograph her and use it here and on Facebook! The markets don’t appear to be great for selling, so I will not be travelling to the one next weekend.

I thought I would include a photograph of the dogs and Zebulon. Last night he clearly decided that he wanted most of one of the dogs’ mats. Archie and Nancy seem to have managed to each have a bed however Mabel was forced to share!

Until tomorrow…

  1. Really busy! I wasn’t sure about the Xmas tree when you first mentioned it but it looks spectacular!
Hats look fun too! I wonder if the other traders are doing any better at the markets? Be interesting to know what sells there.
Hope you found some time to relax! 🤗
