Oh no!

Those of you who know me well will know that I swear by my slow cooker. Even in the summer months I use it regularly. Now as we approach the autumn and winter it becomes something that I can use several times a week.

This lunchtime I was washing the pot part when I knocked it against the sink. Unfortunately I heard a crack. When I looked I realised that there was a large fissure running across much of the pot. It was no more. A sad moment!

I had an immediate problem; in that how I had planned to cook dinner needed to change. I also started to think about whether there was something that I could use as a pot in it and how it might be less vulnerable. It seems that the pot element of a slow cooker is extremely thick and made specifically for the purpose. Therefore I think it would be difficult to substitute another piece of crockery to use in it. So my question is, could another material be used to make the inner pot one that would be resistant to breaking if it is knocked or dropped?

I am going to be on the look out for a new slow-cooker. I shall be looking to see whether it is possible to purchase something more robust particularly given how frequently I use it. Any advice welcome!

So a rather mundane post today however it is all part of our life here in France. Until tomorrow…

  1. Oh dear, what a pity your inner pot is broken. Perhaps you can get a replacement from the makers ? The problem I suppose is finding something that is the right size and can sit over the element. Perhaps you could make a hay box and experiment with that ? It would be fun ! I know someone who made a thermal cooler from old polystyrene fish boxes and insulation and wrapped the whole thing in blankets to cook meals. You just bring everything to temperature on the stove and then put the pan and everything into your insulated box to cook. Virtually no electric at all.
Nothing wrong with the mundane, it’s what we send most of our time doing. Xxx
