Se blesser!

It has been one of those days. It started with me relaxing, staying in bed longer and reading my book. I think I should have stayed there!

I got up just as an enquiry from Airbnb came in, someone wanting a room this evening. Airbnb can automatically book rooms with 24 hours notice however less than that and they need to enquire. Now with everything that has happened recently I am hardly going to turn down any bookings! So it was off to the gite to begin the change over process.

Yesterday at IKEA I had bought some knives. We we initially opened the gite d’etape I had taken a set of knives from our kitchen. I liked the set and wanted them back which was why I had bought some replacements. I opened the packaging at home because I wasn’t sure whether there was anything suitable to open them with at the gite. I packed a bag with clean bedding and towels and placed the knives in the same bag. In the process of putting the bag in the car I pushed on it forgetting that the knives were there. You can imagine the rest. So having locked the house I had to let myself back in and find the steri strips with blood going everywhere. 3 strips later the bleeding appeared to have stopped. However by the time I got to the gite it was leaking a little. Undeterred I put on a pair of disposable gloves and got to work. 2 hours later I was reasonably happy with the way things were looking.

Bandaged finger!

Next stop was the bank. I needed some cash and to find out what had happened to the cheque book I had ordered. The gentleman was helpful but couldn’t understand why I hadn’t received it. He said that he would reorder it. I had only started to drive out of Heulgoat when my phone rang. Could I return to the bank? I went back to find that they needed to complete some forms about fiscal residency and tax. Having answered the questions he asked if it was the same for my husband. I said that it was. He printed off the form for me to sign. He then printed another for my husband. I thought I would need to take it away with me. Not so neither! He said oh you can sign it as him. Only in France!

Next stop was at a friend’s house. I had some things to drop off and other things to pick up. They are in the process of having a hangar partially taken down and rebuilt to make it safe. I was invited into the garden to see. On my way down the slope at the side of the house I slipped and managed to cut my knee and bend my wrist back. So I am doing well on injuries today!

Cut knee and yes blood!

Se blesser is French to cut or injure oneself. I really hope that these are the end of it. The finger doesn’t actually hurt but my knee does and I just don’t want anymore!

This weekend is a Bank Holiday here in France. The bank holiday is actually Monday. So I am going to do what I have said before and take the weekend off. I will go and lick my wounds and be back on Tuesday. I hope you all have a good weekend.

  1. Sorry to hear about your finger and your batched knee. I hope it isn’t too sore tomorrow for you. I love the colour of your leggings though. They are absolutely lovely and such a shame you ripped them.
Dean once sat on a long blade knife just before we were due to fly to Portugal on holiday. It was a very funny A and E experience as I knew the stafff and an even funnier flight ! He was not very good at sitting still with stitches in his buttock.
I really hope you have a wonderful long weekend and that things run smoothly for you and your guests. I bet that coffee in a cafe will taste better than you ever remember . Take care and enjoy just doing whatever you fancy. Xxx

  2. Oops! Bad luck to have two accidents in one day! Looks like the bookings are picking up though which is wonderful news
Been shopping with Emily today – it’s the third day I have spent individually with one of my grandchildren and was delightful. I really don’t like shopping Malls though – hot and airless / especially with a mask!
Finally: I wonder why our bank holidays are different – I thought they were religious days. Enjoy anyway 🤗
