Oh dear!

I over slept this morning. It was the first night in probably over a week when I haven’t been awoken in the night by the cat. It continues to live a nocturnal life and hide from us!

So after walking the dogs I thought that I’d have a go at the cabinet that I started up-cycling a week or so ago to go in the bathroom. I was disappointed to see that much of it was need of a third coat. I use a chalk paint (Frenchic) which usually only needs two coats. However I put the third coat on. Whilst I was waiting for it to dry I found the stencil that I intended to use on it. I realised that it would not work. The curved surface of the doors with the large stencil spaces was asking for trouble. So I spent some time looking at all of my different stencils and trying to find something suitable. In the end I discovered a fleur de lys that I didn’t even know that I had. I decided that keeping it simple would probably be the answer. It was at this point that it became an oh dear moment as several problems set in. The paint that I was using had separated and whilst I had stirred it; clearly not enough, so on the first stencil it managed to run a little. I managed to get the paint into a more usable state. I then noticed that as I pulled off the masking tape it had taken some of the paint with it. By this time I was getting quite fed-up with the project. Since it was only for us, not something that I intend to sell, and it cost 2.50€ plus the paint that I already had, I decided that I was going to dab the problem areas and call it finished. This is what I did. Now it is installed in the bathroom it looks considerably better than what was there before; but far from my best piece.

On a positive note. The tomato plants that caught the frost and we thought had died seem to be growing again. We will keep an eye on them and see what happens.

I am now off to crochet. I hope that this isn’t an oh dear session too!
