Where does the day go?

I knew that my other half was going to be out for much of the day today. He was going to a builders’ merchants in Brest which is about an hour away. He was picking up a click and collect order as well as getting additional items. He was also picking up a friend to go with him.

I was sure that a day alone meant that I could achieve loads in the she-shed. I wanted to paint and decorate the 2nd cube that I bought the other week in Lidl. I also wanted to paint the cupboard that I’d bought yesterday. I had promised I’d take the dogs for a good walk and I needed to get a load of washing on the line.

The cube waiting for a 3rd coat

I ended up doing things in a different order to the one that I had originally planned. The washing had to wait because it rained. I put a first coat on the cube and then started the process of cleaning the cupboard. First it needed cleaning with sugar soap. I don’t think that I have ever dealt with such a dirty piece of furniture! It took considerably longer than I had expected and didn’t smell too fresh either. I had chosen the colour that I intend to paint it. I also want to stencil the doors, so spent some time choosing one. Our shower room, no room for a bath, might be described as brutal and so I am trying to do some things to make it look a little softer and more welcoming. So the cupboard is going to be a baby pink with some floral stencils.

First coat, I know from experience it never looks good at this stage!

The weather improved and I managed to get the washing on the line. I sanded the cupboard and got a first coat of paint on it. I put a second coat on the cube. The cupboard had taken longer than I had anticipated. On looking at the cube it will need a third coat of paint, though the other one only used two.  At this point that I decided that that was enough for the day and I still needed to walk the dogs!

By this time my husband had returned so we took the dogs out together. We went for a walk at our local lake. Unfortunately it seemed that there was a fishing competition taking place. I’m not sure that the fisherman were pleased to see a young Labrador. He took one of them a stick, he likes to take people presents! After an hour’s walk we were all quite tired.

What have you all been up to, today? Did you do as much as you’d hoped to?

  1. We have had a productive day. We went for a long walk by the River Severn and through a National Trust woodland and so hardly anyone so it was nice to have the countryside to ourselves. It has been cold here today, so we haven’t done too much else but we are having a quiz with friends via zoom this evening and we all need to prepare a quiz round so we have done one on identifying album covers from the 80s.

  2. I’m exhausted just reading! I’d very little yesterday and the day still passed quickly. The tree pollen is about now and I have a constantly dripping nose and feel tired. Just got up on a morning after I have been robbed by a clock springing forward!
Better prep the veg for humungus roast lunch – try to relax – talk later 🤗
