Lists

So I was determined that this week I would do a little more in the Sheshed and get back to being creative and crafty. A very dear friend of mine gave me a note book a while back when I had things to do and was forgetting what they were. Whilst I was working I always had lists on my desk but in my personal life I rarely did. I do now. So this morning over breakfast I wrote a list of some of the things that I wanted to achieve, mostly today, but some are for the rest of the week.

Whilst I was still in the UK I began to upcycle furniture and it was something that I had intended to continue with when I came here. However it is one of the things that I haven’t found time to focus on and also much of what I wanted to do, I haven’t found the raw materials for. I really enjoyed using old wooden doors to create new items including a hall stand and a gardening table. I turned drawers into dog beds and coffee tables and upcycled a tea trolley into a gin trolley.

Whilst in Lidl last week they had some cube seats in the middle aisle. I didn’t like how they looked however I could see that they were a good shape and could be useful because the tops lift off to provide storage. I love our cottage but we do not have any storage! Nevertheless I didn’t want brown mock leather in my lounge. I decided to take a punt and to buy two of them. Today I have been out painting and stencilling one of them to create a new look. Whilst this is not re-cycling, it is definitely up-cycling and I am pleased with the outcome. If anyone in Brittany knows of a cheap source for old wooden doors, please let me know.

So I didn’t get to the end of my list however I am pleased with what I have achieved today. Do let me know whether you like them. Have you achieved anything today that you haven’t done for a while?

  1. Love the cube seat/boxes, much better then the brown!! I always write a list, it’s on my white board, I add to it all the time, often end up doing things that arent even on the list, but I cant function without a to do list, I achieve nothing without one!!

  2. Brilliant transformation Zenna – you are SO talented
Always have a list in my head – but since I retired I allow myself to be distracted 😊. One of the pleasures of being ones own boss!
SO today – lots of housework A.M. Linch then gardening – except: I have the most enormous buddleia tree. Very thick trunk and branches – So last year not so brilliant flowers. It’s completely covered in ivy lower down. 🤷🏽‍♀️ what’s a girl to do – except spend all afternoon sawing, pruning, and uprooting ivy. Hard physical work – but should soon have lots of fresh, young leaves for all the caterpillars etc

    1. I’m glad you like it. With a little patience anyone can do it. And yes definitely one of the pleasures of being my own boss. The gardening sounds wonderful. I hope you enjoyed it.

  3. I’m so pleased the note book started something good. I heard something on the radio the other day when the lady said she wrote lists but only a list she could achieve. It’s good for your mental health to include the most mundane jobs you have to do in a day too (cleaning, changing beds etc) so the act of crossing out ‘done’ has a feel good factor. Not such a creative day today here but I feel a list coming on ..
A definite improvement on the brown boxes – great idea. What’s next?

    1. Oh yes having the easy jobs too is important. A colleague used to say to include something that you had already completed just so that you can cross it off! I don’t go that far but I do put on things like, dog walk! So yes the notebook definitely started something good. Today is market so a little quieter during the day.
