France is known for it’s lively local markets in which you can buy anything from fruit and vegetables to new windows and doors. Anything and everything is sold in markets. I do like this and find that I go to the supermarket less and less. I try to use the markets as much as possible and buy from local producers.
As well as these markets there are also much smaller artisanal markets that occur in tucked away places. One of my French neighbours recently told me about one such market that occurs of an evening in a very small hamlet nearby. He grows organic vegetables which he sells there. There is a baker and who also makes fresh pizzas. A local brewery which produces ales. Someone makes jams and cakes and another producer creates soft cheeses from their own goats’ milk. There is honey and shell fish. Producers come and go and often only sell one or two items. For the last few weeks there was a producer selling kiwi fruit and nothing else. When I asked about her last night I was told that they had finished now.
As from next week Fromthesheshed will have a stall there. I am quite excited to see whether there will be much interest in my products. So if you are anywhere near Quinoualc’h on a Tuesday evening between 4pm and 6pm, then please pop in and say hello.
And yes it has rained all day today!
